A 3-way ball valve features three ports instead of two. Depending on the design of the internal "ball," it can either divert flow from one inlet to two different outlets or mix fluids from two inlets into a single outlet.
The most critical decision in selecting a 3-way valve is the internal flow path.
L-Port (Diverter Valve): * Function: Used to direct flow from a common inlet to one of two different outlets.
Best For: Switching between two tanks or alternating between two different processing lines. It cannot connect all three ports at once.
T-Port (Mixer/Selector Valve):
Function: The most versatile option. It can connect all three ports, mix two fluids, or act as a standard L-port.
Best For: Constant flow systems where you need to mix fluids or bypass a section of the piping without stopping the flow entirely.
Space Saving: One 3-way valve can often replace two or even three 2-way valves, reducing the footprint of your manifold.
Cost-Efficient: Fewer valves mean fewer actuators, less wiring, and lower installation labor costs.
Minimal Pressure Drop: Like standard ball valves, they offer a relatively unobstructed flow path, maintaining system pressure.
Before ordering, ensure your valve meets these criteria:
Media Compatibility: Ensure the body (Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, or Brass) and seats (PTFE/Teflon) are compatible with your chemicals/fluids.
Actuation: Decide if you need manual (handle) operation or automated (Pneumatic/Motorized) control for high-cycle applications.
End Connections: Choose between Screwed (NPT/BSP), Flanged, or Socket Weld based on your existing pipeline.
